The Crow Wing County Board will consider recommendations to reduce the county staff by 26.3 positions when it meets next month.
The item is expected on the board's Sept. 11 agenda.
County Administrator Tim Houle said most of the positions are full time and two-thirds should come from attrition with one-third from involuntary layoffs. Houle said employees who may be affected, either by their specific job or in a broader sense by their department have been informed.
At this point, Houle said the possible cuts are still just recommendations until the board makes a decision.
Tuesday the board approved the proposal to close the county's home health care program. The transition out of the program was expected to be completed by November and affects three home health aides and more than 30 clients.
The board discussed giving employees who may be affected by the layoffs priority through internal postings if there are other county job vacancies that will be filled.
The county employs about 450 people. In June, the county announced it may have to cut 20 to 30 positions in reaction to an anticipated budget deficit for 2009.
