Junior Achievement fundraiser planned Sept. 13
Junior Achievement will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser at Applebee's Restaurant from 8-10 a.m. Sept. 13 in Baxter.

Proceeds from this event will help provide JA programs throughout the Brainerd lakes community this school year.

Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the door or in advance by contacting Amy Sjoblad at (218) 232-4940.

Junior Achievement's mission is to educate and inspire students to succeed in the global economy. JA is the largest nonprofit organization dedicated to educating young people in grades K-12 on financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work force readiness skills.

More than 3,000 students will participate in JA programs in the Brainerd lakes area this school year alone.

School meeting canceled

LITTLE FALLS - The Little Falls School Board meeting set at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Morrison County Government Center in Little Falls has been canceled.

St. Joe's seeks bras, prostheses for mission trip

St. Joseph's Medical Center and its volunteer services department are accepting donated breast prostheses and bras to send on the next mission trip to Tanzania. St. Joseph's officials said women of Tanzania don't have access to these items.

Donated items may be dropped off at the gift shop in the hospital lobby or given to the information desk staff.

Little falls Partners for Peace will protest against war

LITTLE FALLS - Little Falls Partners for Peace is organizing a bus for people interested in traveling to St. Paul to protest against the war in Iraq on Monday.

The bus will leave Little Falls at 8 a.m., rally at the state Capitol at 11 a.m., march to the site of the Republican National Convention at 1 p.m. and head back at about 5 p.m.

Organizer Jeff Odendahl said Tuesday about 15 people were signed up from Little Falls and another 10 to 15 people were expected to be picked up at St. Cloud. The cost of the bus trip will depend on the number of people participating, Odendahl said. At most, he said it will cost between $25 and $30 and with more people expected to join the trip it could drop to $15.

Morrison County Board to meet

LITTLE FALLS - The Morrison County Board will meet Friday to review the county administrator position profile information after its budget committee meeting at 10:30 a.m. in the County Board Room at the Morrison County Government Center in Little Falls.

Highway 371 intersection changed in Pequot Lakes

PEQUOT LAKES - Motorists approaching the Highway 371 intersection from westbound Crow Wing County Road 11 in Pequot Lakes will encounter a new left-turn lane and traffic signal with a combined through/right-turn lane.

Crews installed a left-turn arrow light in the existing Highway 371 traffic signal system with directional signs and re-marked pavement arrows. Motorists will be able to turn south onto Highway 371 from the designated left-turn lane.

Crow Wing County DFLers to watch Obama's speech

Crow Wing County DFLers will meet from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the Last Turn Saloon in Brainerd to watch Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., accept the Democratic Party's nomination for president.
