DULUTH -- The Central Lakes College Raiders opened their season with a 46-7 loss to the Mesabi Range Norsemen Saturday in the Minnesota Community College Conference Kick Off Classic at Minnesota-Duluth.
The Raiders got on the board first, thanks to an 89-yard run by Roderich Warren with 12:31 left in the first quarter.
Then the Norsemen went on a 46-point rampage, pillaging the Raiders' defense for 429 yards of total offense in the process.
CLC ran the ball effectively, gaining 262 yards. Warren led the team with eight carries for 174 yards and the score. But the Raiders offense was a one-sided attack as Raider quarterback, Mike Stanek was just 3-for-11 passing for minus-8 yards.
"Mesabi was a very talented and physical team," said Raiders head coach Mike Degen. "They were much improved over last year. They appear to be a contender for the Northern Division conference championship.
"They took advantage of our mistakes on special teams and offense and defense. They just outplayed us all the way around.
"Preston Blanton, our quarterback, was injured on the third play of the game with a broken collarbone. We hope to regroup for our home opener next weekend."
