CLINTON, Iowa -- Ernest R. Nelson, 79, Clinton, Iowa, formerly of Brainerd, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Mercy Medical Center North.
He was born March 23, 1922, in Aitkin to Ernest and Tessie (Detyler) Nelson. He attended schools in Crosby. He was a Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater from 1941 to 1946, including Okinawa. He married Ann Engstrom on March 29, 1945, in Crosby. He worked as a packer for Clinton Corn Processing Co., in Iowa, retiring in 1985.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Linda Menasco, Knoxville, Tenn.; a son, Larry Nelson, Clinton; four grandchildren; seven sisters, Rose Lampert, Billings, Mont., Emma Jackson and Edith Thomson, both of Nisswa, Shirley Warner, Brainerd, Lucile Thomson, Gainsberg, N.C., Alice White, Harvard, Ill., and Mable Nelson, Wisconsin; and three brothers, Louie Nelson, Minneapolis, John Nelson, Brainerd, and Emil Nelson, Texas.
A daughter, Susan, died in 1997.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clinton with the Rev. Robert Wegehof officiating.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton and from 9:30 a.m. until services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
