Hasselberg, Minnesota handle Manitoba

Cydney Hasselberg made quick work of Dana Todd of Manitoba with an 8&6 victory in singles matches of the Minnesota/Manitoba Cup Aug. 19-20 at Moorhead Country Club.

On Aug. 19, Hasselberg teamed with Sarah Detlefson in the foursome matches and downed Jenna Roadley-Lindsay Stewart 2&1.

Hasselberg and Cassie Deeg defeated Stewart-Fredette 1 up in the four-ball matches Wednesday.

Hasselberg's three points helped team Minnesota defeat Manitoba 10-2. The Minnesota boys' team defeated Manitoba 10-6.

Deacon's celebrates Patriot Golf Day

Deacon's Lodge in Breezy Point is one of 35 Minnesota golf courses that will participate in the third annual Patriot Golf Day Sept. 4-7.

Participating public facilities request an additional $1 for each green fee to benefit families of service men and women. For a complete list of participating Patriot Golf Day facilities in Minnesota and North Dakota, visit www.playgolfamerica.com.

Patriot Golf Day, sponsored by the PGA of America and the United States Golf Association, supports the Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving.

The three-person Charlie's Scramble is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at Breezy Point Resort.

Waverek third in Junior PGA

Dakota Waverek of Staples shot a 39 for third place in the Minnesota Junior PGA tour championship for the 10-12 division Aug. 17 at the Lafayette Club in Minnetonka.

Waverek won a three-hole playoff against Brady Beauchamp of Mound for the third-place cup. Bobby Terwilliger of Edina shot 36 for first followed by Bobby Frazzini of Medina.

A Grand event at Cuyuna

The Grand Casino Mille Lacs and Cuyuna Country Club will host a 2-person best ball tournament at noon Aug. 29 at the Cuyuna Country Club in Deerwood.

The entry fee of $75 for CCC members, or $100 for non-members, includes a gift, lunch, golf with cart and one ticket for postgame prize drawings.

Participation will be limited to 72 teams. Players must have a valid USGA handicap.

The payout will be to first through fifth places in net and gross. There will be proximity games on each hole along with postgame drawings that feature night stays at Grand Casino, free rounds of golf at Rio Verde Country Club in Arizona, area golf packages, Twins, Timberwolves and Wild tickets and more.

Angie Gaviglio, Crosby, 124-yard 12th hole at Cuyuna Country Club Aug. 15 using an 8-iron.

Cindy Pierce, Blair, Neb., aced the 111-yard 11th hole of Bobby's Course at the Legacy Courses at Cragun's Aug. 22 using a 6-iron.

John T. Lang, East Gull Lake, aced the 175-yard eighth hole at Madden's Pine Beach East Aug. 20 with a 7-wood.

Ryan Tibbits, Plymouth, aced the 204-yard ninth hole of The Lakes course at Grand View Lodge's The Pines Aug. 24 using a 3-wood.

Jordan Herman, Brainerd, aced the 210-yard ninth hole at Breezy Point Resort's Whitebirch Golf Course Aug. 24 using a 3-wood.
