20 years ago (1989)

Consistency is something most golfers strive for, and no one can argue that Arla Bollig hasn't displayed that in the Brainerd Women's League. She captured an unprecedented fifth club championship by edging Darlene Palmer in the finals.

30 years ago (1979)

(Adv.) Brainerd Medical Center proudly announces the addition of Richard S. Roberts, M.D., specialist in family practice medicine. Dr. Roberts joins the staff at Brainerd Medical Center on Sept. 15, 1979.

40 years ago (1969)

The Brainerd area is in the grip of a month-long drought that has parched lawns, seared corn and soybean crops and raised forest fire danger to explosive. Brainerd has received only .14 inches of rain since July 27.

60 years ago (1949)

An experimental balloon measuring 70-feet in diameter, and released from Camp Ripley at 7 a.m. this morning, was reported to have dropped into Gull Lake before noon. Persons living at the lake went out in a boat and towed the plastic balloon to shore.

80 years ago (1929)

A 21-year-old northeast Brainerd man passed away at the local hospital yesterday from typhoid fever. He was employed as pulp wood cutter and it is believed he contracted the disease while away from the city.

100 years ago (1909)

W.D. Campbell, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police, came up from Minneapolis hot on the trail of a forger, a Belgian, who forged a check for $500 on one of the Fort Frances merchants. He chased him toward Minneapolis and now toward Brainerd.
