Baxter City Council member Todd Holman on Monday announced his intention to file for one of two at large council seats up for election on the Baxter City Council.
Though he is the incumbent, the Nov. 4 general election will mark Holman's first campaign for public office. Holman, 47, was appointed to the Baxter City Council in August of 2007 to fill out the remainder of Randy Hukriede's term. Hukriede resigned the council to take a position with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency in Willmar.
Though it took an adjustment initially, Holman said during his year on the council he's achieved a strong sense of the city's commitments, responsibilities, projects and initiatives.
"It's been a good experience," Holman said. "It turned out to be a good match for what I felt I could bring to table and I want continue working on the things we're involved in now."

Holman said the two most important issues Baxter will face in the immediate future are hiring a city administrator and continuing to work with Brainerd on expanding that city's wastewater treatment facility, of which Baxter will pay a portion.
"Also, it's important to maintain overall service and keeping the machine running in terms of all services from city commissions," Holman said.
There are three seats on the Baxter City Council up for election Nov. 4 - two at large posts currently held by Holman and Gary Muehlhausen and the mayor's position held by Darrel Olson. Their terms expire Dec. 31.
Filing opens at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and closes at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 9. Candidates may file at Baxter City Hall, 13190 Memorywood Dr. A $5 filing fee will be charged. Baxter City Hall will be closed on Labor Day.
Filing for four Brainerd City Council seats up for election this year also opens at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and closes 5 p.m. on Sept. 9. Candidates may file at the city administrator's office at Brainerd City Hall, 501 Laurel St. A $5 filing fee will be charged. Brainerd City Hall will be closed on Labor Day
The seats up for election Nov. 4 in Brainerd are two at-large positions, the Ward 1 seat and the Ward 3 seat.
