Levy plan finalized
C-I SCHOOL BOARD
CROSBY - The Crosby-Ironton School Board Monday finalized its plan to seek an operating levy referendum on Nov. 4.

The school district will ask taxpayers during the upcoming general election two questions.

The first question will ask for an increase in general education revenue by $595 per pupil, which would generate about $900,000 a year for operating expenses within the district.

The second question seeks a $100 per pupil increase for maintenance expenses, generating an additional $150,000 a year. The first question must pass in order for the second question to be considered.

The referendum, if approved, would be applicable for 10 years and would increase annually by the rate of inflation. The district currently has a voter-approved operating levy for $405 per pupil which expires at the end of the 2013-14 school year.

The referendum, if approved, would apply to typical residential homesteads, apartments and commercial-industrial properties. For both homesteaded and non-homesteaded agricultural properties, the taxes for the proposed referendum would be based on the value of the house, garage and one acre of land. No referendum taxes would be paid on the value of agricultural land or buildings or for seasonal recreational residential property.

The following are the estimated annual property tax increases if the proposed referendum is passed:

¥ A $50,000 property would have a $42 increase for the first question, $7 for the second question, or $49 annually for both.

¥ A $100,000 property would have an $84 increase for the first question, $14 for the second question, or $98 annually for both.

¥ A $150,000 property would have a $127 increase for the first question, $21 for the second question, or $148 annually for both.

¥ A $200,0000 property would have a $169 increase for the first question, $28 for the second question, or $197 annually for both.

¥ A $250,000 property would have a $211 increase for the first question, $35 for the second question, or $246 annually for both.

¥ A $300,000 property would have a $253 increase for the first question, $43 for the second question, or $296 annually for both.
