John "Jack" E. O'Connor, 74, resident of Brainerd, formerly of Duluth, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, at his home. Jack was born in Pontiac, Mich., on March 19, 1930, to Albert and Mae (Webb) O'Connor. He married Esther Koski in Duluth in 1951. Jack was a 43-year employee of Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a longtime league and tournament bowler and was a five-time state horseshoe pitching champion. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed the outdoors, landscaping and coaching kids.
Survivors include his wife, Esther; five daughters, Barb (Greg) Johnson, of Litchfield, Bonnie O'Connor, of Brainerd, Erin (John) Buscher, of Brainerd, Jackie (Dave) Hughes, of Cambridge, and Brenda O'Connor, of Brainerd; five sons, Tim (Rose) O'Connor, of Bismarck, N.D., Brian (Meledy) O'Connor, of Crosby, Jeff (Jodi) O'Connor, of Crosby, Rick O'Connor, of Brainerd, and Pete O'Connor, of Brainerd; 22 grandchildren; and two brothers, Mike (Betty) O'Connor and Jim (Marlene) O'Connor, of Duluth.
His parents died earlier.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Seamus Walsh officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and at the church the hour before services Saturday.
