20 years ago (1984)

Bud Henderson is the new Brainerd Men's City Golf Tournament Champion carding a 115 for a two-stroke edge over Tim Bogenschutz, Rick Harms and Greg Johnson in the one-day medal tourney at Brainerd Area Golf Course.

30 years ago (1974)

Brainerd defeated Deerwood golfers 26-13 in nine-hole play at the Brainerd Country Club. Low for Brainerd was Swede Burton who carded a 36, Cliff Johnson carded a 38, and Al Baltes 39.

40 years ago (1964)

Election of officers was held during the business meeting of the Women of the Brainerd Country Club. Elected were Marge Benson, president; Cecil McCollough, vice president; Virginia Day, secretary and Bettie Schaefer, treasurer.

60 years ago (1944)

A city and county-wide drive for waste paper and rags will be conducted Sept. 9, it was announced following a meeting of committee members at the Hickerson Garment Factory.

80 years ago (1924)

Thursday, Aug. 28, the second day of the fair, has been designated as "Brainerd Day" at the Crow Wing County Fair to be held in Pequot Aug. 27, 28 and 29.

100 years ago (1904)

The ladies of the Maccabees will give one of their popular dancing parties Thursday evening, Sept. 1 at Columbian Hall.
