Leona Anna Olga (Kleinschmidt) Kunde, 91, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009. She was the beloved wife of Kermit F. Kunde for 48 years.
A memorial service for Leona will be held in celebration and thanksgiving for her life at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor Mark Kleckner officiating. There will be no viewing. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd. Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Leona was born on Aug. 24, 1917, and was the daughter of Sophie (Stedfeld) and Heinrich Kleinschmidt. She was graduated from Brainerd High School in 1934 and was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit, in 1998; her parents; and three sisters, Eleanor Johnson (1985), Maleda Luttmann Olson (2007) and Esther Templeton (2009).
Leona was very active in her church where she served as president of the Ladies Aid and was a member of the Women's Guild, Over 50 Club and various committees. She also sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for many years. Although mainly a homemaker while raising her family, in later years Leona was employed at Color Craft and at Jensen's Fabrics in Brainerd. Her greatest passion was her family. She was a good daughter, a loyal sister, a wonderful mother and a faithful and loving wife. She leaves behind many great memories and the legacy of a happy life lived fully.
Leona Kunde is survived by her son, Roland and wife, Ardis Kunde, of Hanover, Pa.; daughter, Kay, and husband, David Noennig, of Woodbury, Minn.; grandchildren, Rebecca, and husband, Timothy Stecher, of Hampstead, Md., Paul and wife, Kim Noennig, of Minneapolis, and Peter Noennig, of Houston. Also surviving are great-grandchildren Noah and Gavin Stecher and Jackson and Mia Noennig.
