Dave Read gained his first career Super Stock victory and Mark Olson posted his first win of the season Saturday at North Central Speedway.
With the season championship a week away, the Street Stock class stands out as the most competitive points race.
After winning a points championship in Street Stock, Reed is in his third year of driving the No. 21 Super Stock.
On Saturday, he executed a pass ahead of the leader, Seth Kramer and did not relinquish first place.
"I was just watching for Seth to make a mistake," said Read. "He and Tony Schaefer both ran a great race. The car just felt great and I was just waiting for that one chance. He moved up a little bit and I shot underneath of him. I saw a nice line on the top of the cushion so I stayed up there and never looked back.
"It is nice that the monkey is off my back. There are guys that run five, ten years and never get a win. They are hard to get and it is a great feeling to get that win."
Read received help this year to replace a motor halfway through the summer. He admitted he has a lot of people to thank.
"This was my brand new motor tonight," said Read. "I would like to thank Brad Jensen and Trevor Hillman for building a great motor, and thanks to Nate Hanson for all the work that he has done. And a big thanks to my mother and father for supporting me. I also wanted to say thanks to Ron and Tim Johnson for getting me to where I am today and helping me out in the Street Stocks to get me here."
In Street Stock, the tightest race in all of the classes saw Tim Johnson come into the race with a slim three-point lead over Dan Severson. The lead evaporated after the heat races as Severson pulled into a tie.
Luck went back in Johnson in the feature. He scored the win, while Severson's car got mixed up with Christina Wollak in turn four with six laps left. With the first, Johnson owns a 12-point lead heading into the last race.
Shane Sabraski earned a clean sweep in the Midwest Modified and A-Modified feature events. With the win in the A-Modified class, Sabraski has a sizable lead over Justin Jones and Charles Cooper IV.
Sabraski still has a slim chance in the Midwest Modified class, but Dan Ebert finished second behind Sabraski in the feature event. Ebert held a 17 point lead over Sabraski at the start of the evening.
Fans in the Pure Stock class are used to seeing the No. 84 car in the winners circle the last couple of season. Derek Olson drove the car the last few years, but stepped away this season.
His dad Mark got back into the car and he earned his first win of the season. He lead for 13 of the 15 laps after moving past Doug Cyrus on the second lap. Daaron Johnson finished second and Rod Larson Jr. third.
"This is the first one for me in quite awhile," said Mark Olson. "My son Derek was four when I started racing. That's how I came up with the number 84. My daughter was eight and my son was four. He is 22 this year so we have been at it for 18 years.
"When Derek was 15, we built a car together. He has been driving it for awhile and wanted to take some time off."
