MERRIFIELD -- Patrick Groat, 61, of Merrifield, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. at St. Emily Catholic Church in Emily. Interment will be at the Swanburg Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday, Aug. 25, from 5-7 p.m. at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
Patrick Leon Groat was born Sept. 28, 1942, in Chicago to Leo and Eva (Chabrecek) Groat. He grew up and attended school in Round Lake, Ill., vacationing with his parents at their cabin on West Fox Lake in Fifty Lakes. On Nov. 4, 1961, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart and lifelong friend, Anita House, in Round Lake, Ill. He did maintenance work for Multi-Graphics in Mount Prospect, Ill., for 25 years. Patrick and Anita moved to their West Fox Lake home permanently in 1989.
Patrick is survived by Anita, his wife of 43 years; his son, Shawn (Donnajean) Groat, of Goodyear, Ariz.; a close cousin, Geri Pahl, of Lanexa, Va.; and five grandchildren, Justin, Dean, John, Tana and Samantha. His parents and a son, Robert, preceded him in death.
