Calvin G. Standish Sr., 88, of Brainerd, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. Private family services will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Camp Ripley where Calvin will be inurned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Calvin Gilbert Standish was born Jan. 31, 1916, in Bloomington to Clinton and Elsie (Kell) Standish. He was united in marriage to Anna Bautner in Wisconsin in 1937. The couple owned and operated a resort and bait shop near Long Prairie. He later moved to Siren, Wis., and then to Prior Lake before living with his children on Whitefish Lake and in Pequot Lakes. He visited and stayed in Oregon frequently. Most recently he had lived at Bethany House. He had enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping.
Calvin is survived by two sons, Calvin (Lou) Standish Jr., of Lakeview, Ark., and Robert Standish, of Pequot Lakes; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Richard; a granddaughter, Cindy; and siblings, Miles, Rene and Hazel.
