Delores Hazel Krienke was born April 15, 1934, in Elk River to Harold and Margaret (Otto) Krienke. She was united in marriage to Clyde Rust Sept. 10, 1955, in Newport, Minn. For the first year after her marriage she worked as a keypunch operator for the VA. Following the birth of their son, Lyle, she devoted herself to being a mother and homemaker. Delores and Clyde lived in Cottage Grove for many years. Following his retirement from 3M in 1988, they moved to Horseshoe Lake in Mission Township. Delores was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was active in women's groups at her church. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and going to the casino. A sweet and gentle woman, Delores loved children and regretted not being able to have more of her own. She made up for this by being a foster mother and by being "the Pied Piper" for neighborhood children when Lyle was growing up. She loved to cook and bake and gave most of her baked goods away to friends and neighbors.
Delores is survived by Clyde, her husband of nearly 49 years; her son, Lyle (Julie) Rust, of Cottage Grove; a sister, Eleanor Krienke, of White Bear Lake; and three grandsons, Chad, Mathew and Nathan Wilmes. Her parents; brothers, Howard, Lyle and Roger Krienke; and sister, Shirley Boche, preceded her in death.
