ISLE -- Elmer G. Eklund, 90, Isle, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at the Foley Nursing Home.
He was born March 30, 1912, in Minneapolis to Carl and Tillie (Olson) Eklund. In 1915, the family moved to Lakeside Township, Aitkin County, where he grew up and attended Lakeside country school. He married Marguerite I. Anderson on Dec. 31, 1930, in Lakeside Township. He worked many jobs, including farming, postal carrier, truck driver, construction worker, mechanic, janitor at General Mills, and last as a machinist in Minneapolis until he retired in 1974. They lived in Minneapolis from 1970-1974 and then returned to Eastside Township. He had lived at the Isle Apartments since 1994.
Survivors include five sons, Marlyn and Norman Eklund, both of Malmo, Lawrence Eklund, Aitkin, Gerald Eklund, Duluth, and Philip Eklund, Middletown, R.I.; four daughters, Lavonne Cooper and Corrine Maxwell, both of Isle, Elaine McPheeters, Buffalo, and Jean Brooks, Eagan; 37 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
His wife, Marguerite, died March 7, 1997; and a son, Roy Eklund, three grandsons, four sisters and two brothers also died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Holden Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Sodergren officiating. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. today and 10 a.m. until services Monday at the church.
Arrangements are with the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Onamia.
