FOLEY -- The Foley High School football field will be renamed Darien DeRocher Field in ceremonies Sept. 13.
Dedication will be at halftime of the game between Foley and Big Lake. Before the game a social hour is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Game time is 7 p.m.
DeRocher is a graduate of Brainerd High School and St. John's University. In 1958 he came to Foley where he started and ended his career. He taught science, was head football and baseball coach and assistant basketball coach. In 1966 he was named Foley's athletic director and added all activities to those duties in 1981.
DeRocher served as executive secretary of the Minnesota High School Coaches Association for 25 years.
He recently was named to the Minnesota State High School League Athletic Director's Hall of Fame. Other awards include membership in Brainerd and Foley high school halls of fame and the MSHSL Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was recipient of the MSHSCA George Hahn Award, named Minnesota Class A Athletic Director of the Year in 1991, and was recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the National Coaches Association.
8th-grade volleyball meeting Tuesday
A meeting for parents of Brainerd eighth-grade volleyball players is scheduled 5 p.m. Tuesday at Riverside Elementary. Questions may be directed to Coach Alisha Smith (828-9282).
