NISSWA -- Work at the Nisswa Garden Club's annual show late last month was conducted by candlelight for a while after a summer storm knocked out electricity.
More than 600 people attended the 64th annual garden show. The winner in the "most blue ribbons category" was Burma Brekke. The "viewer's choice award," voted on by people who attend the show, were Looe Baker for his lily entry in horticulture and Merv Eisel in the artistic category.
Other blue ribbon winners picked by the judges were placed in the court of honor. Those winners were:
* Artistic category -- first place, Burma Brekke; second place, Diane Whiting; third place, Dorothy Johnson.
A giant flowering begonia was one of the ribbon winners at the 64th annual Nisswa Garden Club show.
* Horticulture category -- first place, Looe Baker; second place, Ted Leagjeld; third place, Lauvene Clarke.
* Youth category -- first place, Parker Williams; second place, Mikaela Woodbury; third place, Morgan Twamley.
There were more than 600 entries and organizers reported well-attended seminars.
