Harry Stranski repeated as champion Saturday in the 1981 Men's Club Tournament at the Brainerd Golf and Country Club. Stranski defeated Bud Henderson for the title. He had beaten Bud Marshall and Vern Moore to gain the finals.

Lions Club representatives and Vocational School officials met Monday afternoon to discuss a student grant program being contemplated by the Brainerd club.

B-Day has been set by Build Brainerd, Inc. for Wednesday, Aug. 30. At that time, more than 60 solicitors will make a one-day drive to sell a total of $45,000 in stocks and debentures for the new Industrial Building erected on the east edge of the city limits.

Brainerd's cooperation in the "Pots and Pans" Aluminum Drive was 100 percent better than average throughout the country. In the city an intensive two-day drive resulted in collection of approximately 2,300 pounds of scrap aluminum.

Gasoline prices in the leading cities of the United States average 20.3 cents a gallon, compared with 28.9 cents on January, a decline of 30 percent. In Brainerd the lowest price is 22.3 cents.
100 years ago (1901)
City Engineer Whiteley submitted the specifications for the paving of crosswalks on Fourth Street. The bid of Z. LaBlanc for 90 cents per square yard was read. Alderman Wright moved that the bid be accepted. Carried.
