Gilbert B. Dewes Sr.
Gilbert B. Dewes, Sr., age 84, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 19, 2009, at St. Cloud Hospital. He was born in St. John, Ind., on March 30, 1925, to Albert and Matilda Dewes. He was united in marriage on June 13, 1953, to Margie Hardesty in Cook, Ind. The couple moved to Brainerd in 1958. Gil was self-employed and owned his own businesses, Dewes Construction and Dewes Excavating. He served as Crow Wing County commissioner for eight years and retired in 2002. Gil was a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa and the Elks Club in Brainerd. He also served in the U.S. Air Force.
Gil is survived by his wife, Margie; and seven children, Judy (Bob) Jones, Kathy Boser, Paula (Chip) Withrow, Betty (Jack) Nunes, Mary (Jess) Krick, Gil Jr. (Nicole) Dewes, Patti (Bruce) Burggraff; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Francis (Jean) Dewes, Joe (Juanita) Dewes and Al (Wanda) Dewes. His parents; three sisters; and five brothers preceded him in death.

Gil had a deep and inspiring faith. He loved God, his family and the outdoors.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa with Father George Zeck officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa with military honors provided by Brainerd American Legion Post No. 255 Color Guard. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at St. Christopher's Catholic Church and also the hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
