20 years ago (1989)

A 31-year veteran of the Minnesota State Patrol remained locked inside his mobile home this afternoon with an arsenal of weapons. He reportedly assaulted his wife last night, sending her to the hospital, and was allegedly drinking heavily before police arrived.

30 years ago (1979)

The Brainerd Rotary Club today launched a campaign to raise more than $272,000 to assist in financing the Crow Wing County Historical Society's renovation of the former county jail building into a historical museum.

40 years ago (1969)

The Brainerd Elks Lodge will celebrate its 69th birthday tomorrow with a dinner for members followed by music and dancing. The lodge was formed on August 23, 1900, when 64 men met at Gardner's Hall. A.J. Halsted was the first Exalted Ruler.

60 years ago (1949)

The car of Dr. Grace Williams, North Third Street, was stolen last night sometime after midnight. The thief was the same man who drove into Terry's service station at 2 a.m., then driving off after getting a fill-up. The attendant got the license number.

80 years ago (1929)

Alice Mosford of Clear Lake is spending several days as guest of Irene Lowe at her summer home on North Long Lake. Alice is sister of Sheriff Fred Mosford, who assisted Earle Brown, head of the new highway patrol, in capturing the Elk River bank robbers.

100 years ago (1909)

A 51-pound pumpkin is on display at the offices of Keene and McFadden which was grown in the townsite of Klondike. The pumpkin is certainly a whale and would make a large number of pies.
