WALKER -- Only half of Cass County's 58 tobacco license holders declined to sell tobacco products to under aged people in compliance checks the county conducted this year.
Jeanine Gangeness, public health nurse in charge of that program, reported Tuesday to the county board 55 businesses were visited this year.
Of those 27 sold tobacco products to juveniles.
Of these 20 violated the ordinance once, one did a second time and six had a third consecutive violation.
Of the three businesses not visited, one had a change of ownership, one was not open during the time compliance checks were made and one had just obtained a new license a week before checks were made.
