Russell "Russ" R. Alholm, 83, Brainerd, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2001, at home.
He was born June 8, 1918, in Crosby to Ed and Aina (Mattila) Alholm. He graduated from Crosby High School in 1936. He married Agnes LeDoux on Feb. 4, 1942, in Brainerd. He was in the Merchant Marines until 1945. He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad shops until his retirement in 1983. He belonged to the Moose Lodge. He coached a girls slow pitch softball team.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Sharon Swift, Wadena, and Cheryl Berg, Brainerd; three sons, Ronald Alholm, Hoyt Lakes, Michael Alholm, Brainerd, and Terrance Alholm, Brainerd; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Millie King, Muskegon, Mich.
A daughter, Sheila Jean Alholm; a granddaughter; a brother, Ovia; and a sister, Helmie, died earlier.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd with Father Bill Skarich officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today with parish prayers at 6 p.m. at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and an hour before services Thursday at the church.
