Several area students recently gained scholarships.

Two area students were awarded Evelyn Lenander Fund scholarships to pursue degrees in elementary education.

Lenander, a long-time resident of Buffalo Lake, established this scholarship fund in 1989 for third and fourth-year college students pursuing degrees in elementary education. She was a teacher in Buffalo Lake schools for 29 years and then served as a substitute teacher for 13 additional years. Eleven students from the state received scholarships totaling $26,250.

In the lakes area, Michael Hallgren, Brainerd, was awarded $1,500 and Nicole Maslowski, Little Falls, received $3,000.

These scholarships are part of the $132,000 in scholarships the Central Minnesota Community Foundation awarded this year to more than 100 students throughout the central Minnesota region.

CMCF administers 79 separate scholarship funds. These scholarships are offered through the efforts of individuals who value education and wish to pass on that value to others by encouraging further education.
