20 years ago (1989)

Law enforcement officers were ready for trouble but found little at the Brainerd International Raceway drag races over the weekend. Sheriff Frank Ball monitored BIR activity over the weekend with 20 metro officers and 112 security officers.

30 years ago (1979)

Continuing a week-long series of allegations of impropriety concerning his suspension, Brainerd Police Chief Wayne Hasty has called for the resignation of an alderman, leveling charges of intimidation and conflict of interest.

40 years ago (1969)

The long, drawn-out battle between the Brainerd School Board and Brainerd teachers finally came to an end yesterday when the two sides agreed to compromise on the form of contract to be used.

60 years ago (1949)

The longest fair in the history of Crow Wing County was brought to a colorful conclusion with two performances of the Territorial Centennial birthday party, with a cast of 200.

80 years ago (1929)

The Crow Wing County Fair at Pequot will open Thursday and will interest visitors with a program that will fill every minute of time. The Brainerd American Legion Auxiliary band will perform several concerts before going to play at the Wadena Fair.

100 years ago (1909)

A snake, later identified as a venomous water moccasin, was discovered by clerks in D.M. Clark's store near the counter and coiled to strike. Tom Gibson shot at it three times with a rifle, but it survived. He then beat it with a club and severed it with an ax.
