AL West is getting crowded

Posted: Wednesday, August 21, 2002

Everyone has been winning recently in the wild AL West -- except the Seattle Mariners.

The Mariners, who lost their second straight to the Detroit Tigers 6-3 Tuesday night, have been beaten in four of five and nine of 15.

While Seattle has been slipping, the Anaheim Angels and Oakland Athletics have been surging to the top.

Even with a 7-5 loss to the New York Yankees on Tuesday night, the Angels have won seven of nine.

And the Athletics won their seventh in a row, beating the Cleveland Indians 6-3 behind home runs by Jermaine Dye and Eric Chavez.

How does it all add up? There's a virtual three-way tie in the wild West -- technically, Anaheim is up by two percentage points.
