State fair bus trip planned for seniors

PIERZ - Horizon Health's RSVP Program is making its annual trek with two busloads of senior citizens and their family members and friends to "Senior Day" at the Minnesota State Fair on Sept. 3.

The cost of reserving a seat on the bus is $15 per person. There is still room on the bus. Interested parties should contact Doreen or Jeannie by Aug. 26 by calling at (320) 468-6451 or (800) 224-6451.

Upon arrival at the State Fair, everyone will be responsible for bringing cash to purchase their own ticket for fair admittance. Cost of the tickets are: Age 65 and older, $6; ages 13-64, $11; ages 5-12, $8; children younger than 5 are free.

The bus will leave the Pierz Senior Center parking lot at 7 a.m.; will leave Little Falls Senior Center parking lot at 7:30 a.m.; will leave Royalton Senior Center parking lot at 8 a.m. The group will be leaving the state fair at 5 p.m.

5th annual Good Samaritan Motorcycle Ride planned

The fifth annual motorcycle ride to raise money for care center remodeling at Good Samaritan Society-Pine River is planned Aug. 29.

The ride is about three hours long covering 105 miles of up-north views. The ride starts at the Pine River Care Center with an opening ceremony and sloppy Joe lunch. The ride will end at the Jenkins VFW with a hamburger steak dinner.

The fundraiser is designed to assist during crisis times in older adult services with many cuts in programming and funding from the government.

Registration is 11 a.m. at the Good Samaritan-Pine River Care Center. Opening ceremony is 12:15 p.m. with the ride starting at 12:30 p.m. The dinner celebration is 4-8 p.m. with a cost of $5.95 per person.

Cost of the ride is $20 per rider.

BLACF elects board vice chairman

The Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation announced Mark Ronnei joined its board of directors for a second set of three-year terms.

He will serve as vice chairman of the board of directors.

Ronnei serves as general manager of Grand View Lodge resort where he is responsible for the management of resort operations and represents the company in the areas of planning and permitting for new developments and projects. Ronnei has been with Grand View Lodge for 30 years and previously had management positions in sales, development, real estate and resort operations. Ronnei attended both Southwest State University and Cornell University.

The Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation is one of more than 700 community foundations nationwide and is an affiliate of the Central Minnesota Community Foundation, a regional foundation based in St. Cloud. Moose Lodge 1246 members to meet Thursday

Members of Moose Lodge 1246 in Brainerd will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the lodge.

Moose officials said there have been a number of updates since the last meeting and member attendance is urgently needed in order to plan the lodge's future.
