Where in the world is Gary?

Posted: Thursday, August 20, 2009

In his latest adventure to raise funds for Kinship Partners, Gary Walters and his son, Jackson, are Rollerblading to Washington, D.C.

Check out his progress through Tuesday: On their first full day in Wisconsin, the Walters (Gary and son Jackson on Rollerblades, daughter Jessica on a bike and wife Lisa in a vehicle) found the going difficult because of hills, rough pavement and narrow road shoulders. Switching to a smaller road system helped, and the Walters ended their day near Madison, Wis.

Miles traveled: 57 miles.

Total miles traveled: 324 miles.

Total funds raised: $5,730 in pledges.

Daily destination reached: East of Madison, Wis.

Mile musings: On a funny note, I did biff it today but not because of a little rock. No, I slowed and as I went to step off the pavement (onto what had always been soft soil along the shoulder) I learned on this section it was hard not soft. My skate went right out from underneath and I landed square on my hip. Ow. Another bruise. And with lots of traffic watching. Ego getting even smaller, and scrape on leg getting bigger.
