PIERZ - Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Katharina C. "Katie" Zak, age 93, of Pierz and formerly of St. Cloud, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at Holy Family Catholic Church at Bull Dog Lake, north of Hillman. Katie passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 19, at her home in Pierz. Her nephew, the Rev. Bernard Kahlhamer, will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Family Parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel, 202 Main St. S., in Pierz and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Katie was born on Jan. 22, 1915, in Lastrup, Minn., to Rupert and Amelia (Wittman) Kahlhamer. She married Peter P. Zak on July 25, 1933, in Lastrup and they resided on Platte Lake where they owned and operated a family resort "Camp Thorofare." They also owned and operated Wild Lily Brand Wild Rice Plant and farmed. Katie was a member of Holy Family Parish, the St. Theresa Society of the Little Flower, Central Association of the Miraculous Medal and the Rosary Confraternity. She was also a member of St. Anthony's Parish, Christian Women and the Legion of Mary in St. Cloud.
Katie was very involved in St. Anthony's Parish and was a strong supporter of the Parish Endowment Fund. She also enjoyed her family, quilting, gardening, picking strawberries and blueberries.
Katie is survived by her children, Eunice (Herman) Will, of St. Cloud, Sylvia Piere, of Circle of Pines, Carolin (Gary) Krueger, of Baxter, Paul (Opal), of Lino Lakes, Joe (Kathy), of Brainerd, Bea (George) Augustinack, of Savage, Marti (Bruce) Proell, of St. Cloud, Richard (Rose), of Brainerd, Terri (Skip) Pull, of Tehachapi, Calif., Roger (Rhonda), of Palmer, Alaska, David, of Minneapolis; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Edna Janson, of Camas, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Cleora Augustinack; nine brothers and two sisters.
