Miles W. McNally, 86, died peacefully Aug. 17, 2008, at home on Lake Sylvan surrounded by his family. He was a man of integrity who loved to serve others, 50-plus year agent with Mass Mutual Life Insurance Co. and founder of McNally, Dunnavan and Lund Inc. He was a president of the American College of Life Underwriters and the MDRT Foundation, a longtime board member of Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Sister Kenny Institute and was a deacon, elder and trustee of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he belonged more than 50 years. Miles was born in Minneapolis and graduated valedictorian from Washburn High School and the University of Minnesota with graduate work in mathematics at the University of Edinburgh. He served as first lieutenant in the 89th Infantry, in Patton's 3rd Army, during WWII. Miles loved what he did: selling insurance, helping families and businesses and solving problems with his unique blend of creativity and mathematics. He was a trusted financial adviser to many companies, individuals and nonprofit organizations. His hobby was working in his workshop at his beloved Arranmore on Gull Lake, where he spent most summers since 1935. He was the proud father and grandfather to his children and 19 grandchildren.
