20 years ago (1989)

(Photos) Curt Compton of Nisswa caught this 18-pound northern using a Rapala in 10 feet of water in Lake Edward. Keith Englemann of Burnsville landed a 6-pound largemouth bass out of Pine Mountain Lake using a Little N lure.

30 years ago (1979)

(Photos) Byron Stromberg of Brainerd bagged an 8-5 walleye out of Gull Lake using a Green Shad in 10 feet of water. Donald Wallin of Pequot Lakes snared this 5-1 largemouth bass out of Pelican Lake in 12 feet of water.

40 years ago (1969)

After convincing St. Paul Park and Richfield that they owned the best pitching in the state Pony League tournament, with 35 strikeouts over the two games, Brainerd's Carmen Pirates belted four homeruns in a 15-6 championship win over St. Paul Park.

60 years ago (1949)

Clarence O'Rourke, who claims the title of world's greatest daredevil, will scale the court house building on Laurel Street with his bare hands on Saturday afternoon. He's billed as the man who scaled the Woolworth Building, 63 stories, in New York City.

100 years ago (1909)

A.A. Graham has struck an artesian well at his place on south Broadway and O.G. Graham will go into business distributing water from this well. He states the analysis proves it is "pure and sanitary."
