Need answers?

Ageless Expo may be the place to go

Posted: Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Do you have Medicare questions? Are you looking for an assisted living facility to meet the needs of your aging parents? Have you wondered about the signs of a heart attack?

These questions were on Sam's mind so last year he attended the Ageless Expo. He found that he could get answers to all of his questions through the exhibitors, speakers at the presentations or from talking to other seniors who were at the expo. Sam also enjoyed the entertainment that was on the stage of the cafetorium.

As he was leaving, Sam stopped at the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center's exhibit booth to let us know how much he appreciated the Ageless Expo and the information that he found at it.

As we are preparing for this year's Ageless Expo, I thought about Sam. We all have questions and search for the answers. I encourage you to bring your questions to the Ageless Expo and we will have individuals with the expertise there to answer them.

If you have attended the expo in the past, please consider attending again. The exhibitors, presentations and the entertainment change each year. The expo will be held on from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Forestview Middle School in Baxter.

A new presentation this year will be Dr. Timothy Dirks from the Minneapolis Heart Institute. His topic is Chest Pain: Is it my heart? We all have had small chest pains and wonder if there is more going on than just the pain. Attend this presentation and learn what are the symptoms and signs are of a heart attack.

Our community has many talented senior entertainment groups. Diane Saumer and Friends will be performing at the Ageless Expo this year. You won't want to miss the energy of this group!

Guide Point Pharmacy is a new exhibitor at the expo this year. Laura Schwartzwald from Guide Point states that they are looking forward to meeting seniors of the lakes area and informing them of the services they have to offer. Stop in at their exhibit booth to learn more.

Brainerd Lakes for a Lifetime will be sponsoring an area devoted to Senior Safety and Security. In this area you will find information from the fire department, sheriff's department and legal aid. There will be free informational brochures and professionals who can answer your questions.

This article is just a sampling of what you will find at the Ageless Expo. Watch next month's Senior Class for additional information and save the day, Saturday, Sept. 19. See you there!

DeANN BARRY is the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center director.
