ALEXANDRIA Tom Thompson of Brainerd captured his first WISSOTA Late Model feature win of the season Saturday at Viking Speedway.
Thompson had come close a few times this season but could not nail down that elusive win until last Saturday night.
Greg Meyer of Wahpeton, N.D., assumed the lead from his pole position on the waving of the green flag and led for the first three trips around the half-mile oval.
Thompson then took the lead as he charged past Meyer as the field exited the second turn.
Thompson led for the final 17 trips around the track for his first win of the season.
Jeff Hinkemeyer of St. Cloud was second and Meyer settled for third.
Thompson had finished third in his heat race.
Terrell Thompson of Brainerd placed seventh in his Late Model heat and was 12th in the feature.
Rick Sweet, also of Brainerd, was fifth in his heat and dropped out of the feature with mechanical problems. He was credited with a 17th-place finish.
Tim Sweet finished fifth in his Wissota Super Stock heat race and placed seventh in the main event.
Racing resumes 6 p.m. Saturday with the annual Douglas County Fair race.
