Information sought in possible arson

The Brainerd Police Department is seeking information about a house fire in northeast Brainerd that's being investigated as an arson.

The fire was reported at 12:36 p.m. Sunday at the Melissa and Jason Eklund residence in the 800 block of Sixth Avenue Northeast.

Brainerd Police Investigator Chad Kleffman today said it appeared the fire was started in an empty cooler and near a gas grill on the back porch of the house. The fire then spread to the house. No one was injured in the fire.

An estimate of damage was not available.

The Brainerd Fire Department also is investigating the fire.

Kleffman said a reward is being considered for information that leads to an arrest and/or conviction.
