Career guidance workshops offered at CLC

Posted: Friday, August 18, 2000

The Meta 5 Displaced Homemaker program will hold a series of six progressive, career guidance and personal skill development workshops in September at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.

These free workshops will be held from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept.12, 14, 19, 21, 26 and 28, in Room C109.

Topics include learning to identify interests, skills and strengths; techniques of decision-making and goal-setting; job-seeking strategies; assertive communication; stress management; and information on training and educational opportunities.

In addition, the workshops will address how to develop a resume, write cover letters, hone interview skills and how to complete job applications.

Lucy Franz, Meta 5 director, said a new topic is discussed each session, so people are encouraged to attend all sessions.

Meta 5 DHP is sponsored by Central Lakes College and funded by the Minnesota Department of Economic Security. "Meta 5 services and workshops are provided free to eligible displaced homemakers," Franz said. "People who do not meet the guidelines of the program are served through funds by a special grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation."

To register or for information, call Meta 5 at 855-8011, or CLC at 1-800-933-0346, extension 8010. The address is Central Lakes College, 501 W. College Drive, Brainerd, MN 56401.
