WALKER -- The Occupational Health Safety Agency inspected the Cass County Social Services building Aug. 1, Administrator Robert Yochum reported to the county board Tuesday.
The inspector, Linda Malm, tested carbon dioxide and humidity levels at various points in the building. She recommended having Honeywell install devices to measure building air pressure before and after going through system filters.
She suggested the county monitor humidity levels in the building and check the amount and types of gases new carpeting might emit before it is installed.
Applied Environmental Sciences Inc. also inspected the building July 24 under a contract with the county to determine the types of mold found in building walls.
Results are expected in the next two weeks. OSHA also will review that report.
In other county board business Tuesday, Auditor-Treasurer Sharon Anderson reported interest earned on county investments continues to exceed budget projections except those earned on health and human services funds.
Yochum said he expects overall county investment earnings could reach about $200,000 more than projected by year end.
Sheriff Randy Fisher obtained board approval to convert three part-time jailer positions to two full-time positions. The three former part-time positions became vacant following one retirement, a resignation and a transfer to dispatch division, Fisher said.
The board agreed to consider before the 2001 boating season adopting a water ski slalom course ordinance to govern how and where such courses may be used.
Fisher reported sentence to serve crews spent a lot of their work time mowing grass in July. They also waterproofed playground equipment and built ball field dugouts at Remer.
They filled town road holes, painted Backus county housing, painted and did carpentry at the fairgrounds in Pine River and Pillager and swept city streets.
Probation Officer Reno Wells reported juveniles ranging down to age 11 earned $5,976.09 last year by working to pay restitution under a probation department program.
