ST. PAUL (AP) -- Rep. Bruce Vento announced he will marry a schoolteacher, Susan Lynch, of Chatfield, Aug. 31.
Vento, who recently completed aggressive treatment for a rare and often fatal form of lung cancer, said Friday the ceremony will be private.
Lynch works for Education Minnesota, the state's largest teachers' union.
The St. Paul Democrat has been referring to Lynch at recent gatherings as a "special friend who has made the past five years a real joy."
The couple will live in St. Paul.
This is the second marriage for Vento, who has three adult sons from his first marriage, and the first marriage for Lynch.
Because of his illness, Vento is not seeking re-election to Congress, where he has served for 24 years.
His six months of treatment included the removal of one lung, two months of chemotherapy and seven weeks of daily radiation treatments.
