Local sports shorts

The Lakes Area Youth Soccer Association, in partnership with the Minnesota Vikings, are offering tickets to two preseason games (Aug. 21 against the Kansas City Chiefs and Sept. 4 against the Dallas Cowboys) at a cost of $25 each.

These seats are in the upper level of the Metrodome and usually sell for $48-$86. Tickets are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis with the best available tickets at the time the order is received. $10 of each $25 ticket purchased will go back to LAYSA.

Orders must be received by Monday prior to each game so that tickets may be mailed.

Nisswa Biathlon Club members compete

Five athletes from the Nisswa NW Biathlon Club competed in the 12km roller ski biathlon event Thursday at the Elk River range.

Finishing at the top of the field overall, and first in Youth Men, was Conrad Roberts, 18, of Battle Lake. He won with eight misses on 20 shots in a time of 39:27. In third place in the Youth Men's division was Zean Baker, 15, of Nisswa, with 16 misses in 49:24. Baker was fifth overall.

In the Youth Women's division, Jenna Ruzich, 16, Baxter, took first place, and fourth overall, with eight misses and a time of 49:06 to narrowly edge Baker. Kelci Roberts, 17, finished second in the division with 12 misses in 51:43.

In the Novice division, Noah Baker finished the 9.3km race in 44:09 with only one miss shooting 10 shots from the prone position at the standing target.
