NASHWAUK - Doris L. Schlander, 89, Nashwauk, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007, at Grand Itasca Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids, Minn. She was born June 8, 1918, in Plummer, Minn., to Leo and Anna Miller. She graduated from Keewatin High School in 1935. She married Walter Schlander on Oct. 4, 1940, in Nashwauk, Minn. She was a member of the Nashwauk Lutheran Church, the Nashwauk Beautification Committee and the Nashwauk American Legion Auxiliary. Doris dedicated much of her life to being a homemaker and raising her six children. She also enjoyed bowling, oil painting, quilting, work on the Beautification Committee and making pasties at the church.
Doris leaves behind four sons, Richard (Paulette) Schlander, Hastings, Minn., Terry (Frankie) Schlander, Apple Valley, Minn., Thomas (Paulette) Schlander, Duluth, Minn., and Robert Schlander, St. Cloud, Minn., two daughters, Sally (Leonard) Hodgson, Nisswa, Minn., and Nancy (Duane) Johnson, Pengilly, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Rick Schlander, Rachael Lee, Alyssa Schlander, Michael Schlander, Karin Wolter, Ron and Scott Johnson; 12 great-grandchildren, Austin and Allison Schlander, Stella and Bridget Olson, Elizabeth and Isabelle Schlander, Mia and Maggie Wolter, Garrett and Cattabrie Johnson, and Xavier and Avalon Johnson. She is also survived by her sister, Margie Herdman, of Cohasset, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; sister, Bonnie Schwartz; brothers, Edward Miller and Robert Miller.
A memorial service for Doris will be held at noon on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007, at the Nashwauk Lutheran Church in Nashwauk, Minn. The Rev. Jean Megorden will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the noon memorial service at the church on Thursday. A private family inurnment will be held following the reception downstairs of the church. Memorials may be given to the Nashwauk Lutheran Church.
