After seven years with Crow Wing County in a high-profile planning position, Bonnie Finnerty announced her resignation.
Finnerty is joining the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. She'll be working as a pollution control specialist. Finnerty will be a project manager working with clean water partnerships among other duties.
"It was a really difficult decision," Finnerty told the board Tuesday. "I really care about the community and how we are going to develop. And I just couldn't pass up this opportunity to work a little bit more closely with the environment. It was a very hard decision."
Finnerty smiled and said now she'll have the opportunity to come before the board on controversial issues and give her "2 cents" as a private citizen.
Administrator David Hamilton said the county accepted Finnerty's resignation with deep regret and wished her well in her career.
"Bonnie you've been the one constant thing that we could plan on in the planning and zoning office and we are certainly going to miss you," said Dewey Tautges, county board chairman.
Finnerty's last day with the county is Aug. 17. She'll begin with the MPCA in Baxter on Aug. 22.
