18-under junior teams compete in USTA event

Two 18-under Brainerd teams competed in the United States Tennis Association Junior Team Tennis Northern Sectional Tournament July 25-26 at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus.

Each game players won in individual matches counted as a point for the team score. Team winners were determined by total games won.

The Brainerd Aces, competing in the advanced division, placed third in their pool on the first day and did not advance to the second day.

The Brainerd Smashes, competing in the intermediate division, were awarded the tournament's team spirit award. The Smashes placed second to the Sioux Falls, S.D., No. 1 team in pool play on the first day and did not advance to the second day. Sioux Falls went on to win the event.
