The 50-year anniversary celebration of the Man High II balloon launch will be held as part of Heritage Days this weekend in Crosby.
Friday: The start of the weekend-long backyard tour scavenger hunt. Answers to 10 riddles of local landmarks will be given with a chance to win groceries from Crosby Super Value or Renaissance Festival tickets; the crowning of the king and queen at 10:15 a.m. at Croft Mine Historical Park; Old-fashioned values at area merchants throughout the day; a pie social from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Mid-Minnesota Federal Credit Union; Pork sandwich luncheon from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Unity Bank; Ice cream treats from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Peoples National Bank of Mora, Crosby branch; a pet show at 2 p.m. at the George H. Crosby Memorial Park on main street; and live music by the Iron Mountain Band from 8 p.m.-midnight at the American Legion.
Saturday: Defeating Pain Symposium at 9 a.m. and car show from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hallet Community Center; events at Croft Mine Park from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., including a free horse and wagon ride by the Flying Clydesdales; Crafts at the Croft with children's games and concessions and music by True North, Laura Sergot and a DJ; the Heartland Performing Arts, cheerleaders and dancers; a medallion hunt for kids 18 and younger, with the first clue given at 10 a.m.; events at Crosby Memorial Park on Serpent Lake, including the Serpent Lake Festival of Fine Arts and Crafts and a food festival from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; One Horse Productions music in the bandshell from 1-9 p.m., emceed by John Pribyl; a space symposium featuring Dr. Simons, Apollo Astronaut Duane Graveline and Dr. Marcello Vasquesz, NASA liaison scientist with the Medical Department of Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, N.Y., at 2 p.m. at the Crosby-Ironton High School Mayberry Auditorium; and the Man High Banquet from 7-9 p.m. at Ruttger's Bay Lake Lodge.
