BHS grad strikes out 27 in two games

Brainerd High School graduate Nick Anderson, pitching this summer for the Sauk Rapids Cyclones, picked up two victories against the Brainerd Bees in the last few weeks.

In the final game of the Lakewood League regular season July 30, Anderson struck out 16 and pitched a one-hitter in a 7-inning 10-0 victory.

Last Saturday, in a 5-0 win in the Region 7B tournament, Anderson struck out 11 in seven innings and permitted just four hits.

As a freshman at St. Cloud State last spring Anderson went 2-2 with a 4.45 ERA. In 14 games, and 30.1 innings, he allowed 32 hits and 15 walks while striking out 34.

Alumni boys' soccer scrimmage Aug. 22

The first Brainerd High School alumni boys' soccer scrimmage is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 22 at Southdale Field in Baxter.

Members of the 2009 Warrior boys' team will play alumni.

Adult kickball registration to end

Registration for adult kickball in the fall kickball league ends Friday.

The 6-week co-ed program begins Tuesday and ends Oct. 6. Games will be played at the Memorial Park fields on Tuesday nights.

The cost is $50 for the season. Teams must register by Friday at the Brainerd Parks and Recreation Office.

Freshmen football begins Monday

Brainerd freshmen football will begin Monday at Harvey Shew Field behind the Franklin Arts Center.

Equipment will be distributed at 8 a.m. and practice will follow. All eligibility forms must be submitted to Wendy Smolke in the South Campus office before players will be allowed to practice.
