CROSSLAKE - Butch Thompson, a classic jazz pianist, is coming to Crosslake at 7 p.m. Aug. 28. Thompson reached national fame during his 12-year run with "A Prairie Home Companion" on public radio but for much longer has been known around the world as a traditional jazz master, a pianist whose command of the music of Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Scott Joplin and other giants is unsurpassed.
In addition to his career as a performer, Thompson writes articles and reviews on jazz and produces his own weekly radio show, "Jazz Originals," on KBEM radio in Minneapolis.
The concert is being presented by Crosslake Lutheran Church Outreach Committee as a fundraiser and supplemental funds will be provided by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans up to $800 with proceeds to benefit the Crosslake Area Foodshelf.

NISSWA - Christ Community church in Nisswa will have a men's breakfast and Bible study at 7:30 a.m. Aug. 22. The will continue the study about "Becoming A Godly Man." Those interested in attending should bring a friend.
A men's golf outing is planned for 1 p.m. Aug. 23 at Cragun's Legacy Course. Cost is $39.50 for 18 holes with a cart.

HILLMAN - A pancake breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hillman. The church is located at the junction of Highway 27 and County Road 47.
Age to Age Choral Ensemble in concert
From Age to Age Choral Ensemble with Andrew Miller conducting will be 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 6190 Fairview Road, Baxter.
The ensemble will also perform at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Sunday at First Lutheran Church, 424 S. Eighth St., Brainerd.

Origami display at Bethlehem Lutheran
The public is invited to visit the main lobby at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in northeast Brainerd to see an amazing display of Origami by church member KiSoon Priebe. The intricate paper artwork includes flowers, birds, geometric shapes and other complex figures. The display will be up until the end of September.

Mystery trip planned
The Park United Methodist Seniors will be taking part in a day long mystery trip Aug. 26 with the motor coach leaving the church parking lot at Sixth and Juniper at 9 a.m. After visiting unknown destinations, the bus will return to the church about 7:30 p.m. There is a $45 cost for the trip, which will include the bus ride, lunch and dinner, entrance fees and gratuity. A check, made out to PUMS, is due by Wednesday.

The Travelers Quartet to perform
MALMO - Malmo Free Church will present The Travelers Quartet from St. Cloud in an outdoor concert at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Travelers have been singing in Minnesota churches for more than 30 years.
The church is located near the junction of Highways 47 and 18 on Highway 18 near the northeast corner of Lake Mille Lacs.
