20 years ago (1989)

The Region 8C amateur baseball championship between Fort Ripley and Flensburg was a classic see-saw game, with the lead changing hands or game tied nine times. Tony Veith led the Rebels to a 10-inning, 11-7 win, with three hits.

30 years ago (1979)

The wife of a Pillager man who is being brought to trial for keeping his children out of school last spring asked the Brainerd school board to let her seven children attend Brainerd schools. The board raised the question of who would pay tuition.

40 years ago (1969)

Strong-armed righthander Alan Wallace was in top form in hurling a 19-strikeout, one hit, 2-0 victory for Brainerd's Carmen Pirates over the pre-tourney favored St. Paul Parkway Indians in the state Pony League tournament.

60 years ago (1949)

A one-wheel landing was successfully maneuvered by R. R. Golemboski, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Golemboski, Brainerd, when the plane he was piloting crushed a wheel during a take-off from an airfield in Miami, Florida.

100 years ago (1909)

The Brainerd marksmen all did themselves credit at the big handicap shoot at St. Paul this week. Jim Smith was only one bird behind R. D. Guptil, of Aitkin, the state champion. Fred Gilbert, the former world champion, was there watching Jim mow them down.
