Reservations are being taken for the Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity's 12th annual dinner and auction scheduled Oct. 29 at Breezy Point Resort. Reserve a spot or donate to the auction by calling Habitat at 828-8517.
Dinner tickets are $60 per person ($35 tax deductible) and people may become a dinner sponsor. Sponsorships range from $250-$1,000 and include dinner tickets coinciding with level of sponsorship plus sponsor recognition.

MMBA social mixer Aug. 27 at Zorbaz
GULL LAKE - The Mid-Minnesota Builders Association's social mixer is scheduled from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Zorbaz on Gull Lake. MMBA members and non-members can meet over free appetizers to network with one another.

Short-sale and foreclosure class
BAXTER - More than 30 local real estate agents attended a short-sale and foreclosure class hosted by Keller Williams Realty Brainerd Lakes, sponsored by Becky Butcher of Bremer Bank and taught by Joe Bryski of Keller Williams Realty North Suburban in Vadnais Heights.
The class focused on the following elements of short-sale/foreclosure transactions: The foreclosure timeline in Minnesota; the process of a short sale; what a seller goes through during a short-sale transaction and how to prepare them; how to prepare a buyer for purchasing a short-sale property; and what to expect from the bank during a short-sale transaction.
Bryski has been working in real estate for nearly 11 years. His focus is on pre-foreclosures, short sales and distressed properties.
Crosslake Garden Club to meet
CROSSLAKE - The Crosslake Garden Club will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Crosslake Community Center for its regular meeting.
The speaker, Alma Christianson, will give a presentation on "Wild Edibles."

CROSSLAKE - Winners of the recent 2009 Crosslake in Bloom Garden Contest:
Business Floral GardenLake category, Country Crafts and Cones; Business Container Garden, Golden Horizons; Business Water Garden, C&C Boat Works; Residential Shade Garden, Sharon Mulder; Residential Floral Garden, Residential Container Garden and Residential Water Garden, Donna Bickford.
The contest drew 18 entries, including 10 Crosslake businesses. Contest categories consisted of floral, shade, container and water gardens for residential and business. Judges were Sande O'Connell, Carol Veeninga and Sue Ross from the Crosslake Garden Club.
Particulars of the 2010 contest will be announced in April. All Crosslake residents and businesses are encouraged to enter.
Kuepers' Cross earns LEED certification
BAXTER - Mark Cross of Kuepers Inc. of Baxter recently earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professionals certification.
The LEED Professional Accreditation exam references current standards and resources produced by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Kuepers wins two national ABC awards
BAXTER - Kuepers Inc. of Baxter recently received two Associated Builders and Contractors national Excellence in Construction awards under the commercial construction category. Both also earned an Award of Excellence at the state level and a Pyramid Award at the national level.
The awards were for Kuepers' work on the Two Harbors Burlington Bay Pool Building at the Superior Shores Resort and the Grand Rapids TimberLake Lodge Hotel and Events Center.
Kuepers designed and constructed a new pool and luxury townhouse building on schedule and within budget on the Superior Shores Resort project. The Grand Rapids project was the largest design/build project ever by Kuepers.
The winning projects were selected from entries submitted from across the nation and were judged on complexity, attractiveness, unusual challenges, completion time, workmanship, innovation, safety and budget.
