MSHSL clinics to train new soccer, football officials

The Minnesota State High School League will sponsor pre-season training clinics this month at sites throughout the state.

Officials from local associations will conduct a classroom training session for about one hour, followed by on-field training during pre-season scrimmages.

Veteran officials will shadow new officials during the live scrimmage situations.

Clinics are free. Pre-registration is not required. Participants should come dressed to officiate games and have a whistle.

Information about how to become a registered high school official and how to join a local officials association will also be provided.

Soccer clinics

* Aug. 21 at St. Louis Park, Eagan, Rochester and St. Cloud.

Aug. 23-24 at Duluth.

Clinics in Eagan, Rochester and St. Cloud will begin with 8 a.m. classroom sessions followed by 9 a.m. scrimmages.

The clinic in St. Louis Park will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. scrimmage.

Clinics in Duluth will begin at 3:30 p.m. each day, followed by a scrimmage at 4:30 p.m. Registration will begin 30 minutes before each clinic.

The Rochester clinic will be at Century High School, followed by scrimmages at the Mansour Soccer Complex north of the community college.

The St. Cloud clinic and scrimmage will be at Oakhill Elementary Soccer Complex.

The clinic in Eagan will be at Eagan High School.

The clinic at St. Louis Park will be at Benilde-St. Margaret's High School.

Duluth clinics will be at Public School Stadium.

Football clinics

* Aug. 28 at Byron, Detroit Lakes, Esko, Hopkins, Mahtomedi, Mankato, Sartell, Slayton and Thief River Falls.

Classroom sessions start at 9 a.m., followed by 10 a.m. scrimmages, at Detroit Lakes, Esko, Hopkins, Mahtomedi, Slayton, and Thief River Falls.

The classroom session starts at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. scrimmage at Byron.

Classroom sessions start at 8:30 a.m., followed by 9:30 a.m. scrimmages in Mankato and Sartell.

All clinic sites are at high schools (Murray County Central in Slayton and West High School in Mankato) and/or football practice fields. Registration will be 30 minutes before clinics.
