Jessie L. (Phillips) Anderson, 83, Brainerd, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
She was born on July 31, 1918, in Duluth to Martin J. and Bertha O. (Cottingham) Phillips. She grew up and attended school in Duluth. After graduating from high school she attended the University of Minnesota, Morris. She married Kenneth E. Pearson in Duluth. After being widowed she continued to live and work in Duluth, where she eventually met and married Cecil E. Anderson. They lived in Long Beach, Calif., where he served in the U.S. Navy. After her husband's death, she and her children moved to Brainerd to be closer to her family, who farmed on the Gull River. She worked as a recreational therapist at Brainerd Regional Human Services Center. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Brainerd, where she served with the Ruth Circle and was a member of the Birthday Breakfast group. She was a past president of the VFW Women's Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Pamela Beckers, St. Cloud; a son, Larry M. Anderson, Blaine; a sister, Norma Carkhuff, Brainerd; a brother, Seth R. Phillips, Vadnais Heights; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Her two husbands; a brother, Leland; and a grandson died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Brainerd with the Rev. David Grotzke officiating. Private burial services will be in the Gull River Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter and one hour before services Monday at the church.
