MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- With seven weeks left in the season, the Toronto Blue Jays have a mediocre record and a shot at the playoffs.
Alex Gonzalez homered and drove in a career-high five runs as Toronto routed the Minnesota Twins 13-3 Sunday to salvage the finale of a three-game series.
The Blue Jays finished 3-4 on their road trip against Kansas City and Minnesota, the league's two worst teams. But at 61-59, they are just three games out in the AL wild-card race.
"Somebody needs to get about 10 games over .500," Toronto manager Jim Fregosi said. "Nobody is getting real hot or real cold. You've got to pitch well all year to stay in the race. We've been a bit inconsistent in that area."
