REMER - One person was killed and nine others injured in a two-vehicle collision Saturday on Highway 6, about nine miles south of Remer in Cass County, the State Patrol reported.
The collision happened about 9:45 a.m. after one vehicle crossed the center line on Highway 6 and collided head-on with another vehicle.
The driver of one vehicle, a 47-year-old Rochester man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending the notification of family members.
The driver's wife, Karen Schowalter, 43, and one daughter, Megan Schowalter, 12, suffered minor injuries and were treated at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. Two other daughters, Susan Schowalter, 9, and Gretchen Schowalter, 7, suffered non life-threatening injuries and were treated at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.
A fourth daughter, Kirsten Schowalter, 14, was reported in critical condition at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby.
The driver of the second vehicle, Edward Anttila, 28, Crosby, was in critical condition at a Duluth hospital, the State Patrol reported.
His son, Jordan Anttila, also was reported in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center.
Edward Anttila's wife, Jessica Anttila, 26, and daughter, Hailey Anttila, were treated at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries.
